The European Computer Driving License (ECDL) has, in the past years, become a standard teaching medium. Numerous schools, teachers and students have made use of the educational offers on the subjects ECDL and ECDL Advanced, above all, through the Austrian education portal bildung.at. The fact that there are more than 50,000 registered users. speaks for itself.

This is an area where Germany could learn something from its neighbor Austria. There, the federal authorities have successfully promoted the topic of e-Learning in the schools: The Ministry for Education, Science and Culture (bm:bwk). The ministry’s technology partner is bit media. Together, they launched the country-wide educational portal www.bildung.at.
